My personal system (before 2013)

Several people requested pictures and a description of the system I use at home myself. Although it seemed clear to me that what I use myself is always based on products offered through this website, and using the latest developments within the main system.

Not just to be able to demonstrate it to customers but mostly to enjoy this myself!

Here is a picture showing what I see from my listening position, good thing is that I redecorated my studio making it all look a bit better... ;-)

This system has all that I need or could wish for and besides playing my music I also use it to watch movies from time to time but then with an additional subwoofer (the one I described on this website, more info here) as this is a must, at least to me, as action movies are not the same if the sub is not turned on and therefore much less exciting...

This is what I call a subwoofer...

A few extra tweaks are also present in the room making the system sound better like the tall diffusers at the side walls, the diffusers in the corner (first experiment with diffusers and now used to acoustically take away the corners) and the special home made shelf used to present and place the audio equipment.

The diffusers are based on the Schroeder principle, the tall ones are 2 m high and 67 cm wide. This tweak really improves stereo image if you have your Oris horns close to the side walls. It diffuses the direct reflections nicely making the sound less "out of phase", giving more clarity and giving the room a more spacious sound (works MUCH better than adding damping material!).

The shelf  to present the equipment is made from a 65 mm thick wooden panel fixed tightly to the wall with on top a copper shield which is connected to the mains earth. This shield is doing exactly this, shielding "noise" from the audio equipment resulting in cleaner (darker back ground) and more transparent sound.

Copper shielding...

On top of this shield another 20 mm thick panel was glued to make it all look nice again and on top of that I use one solid wooden panel (40 mm thick home made from Birch plywood) which is decoupled with bearings. This cleans up the sound even more and gives a very transparent, dynamic and clean bass with an even more darker back ground...

I guess this sums up all the main parts of the system but if you need some more specific information or hear it Swing then you can always contact me.
