Quasar Mk2 Filter (BD-Design)

Hi Giulio,

I am building something which resembles the Quasar. Supravox 215 wideband,
Lambda td15s woofer. I am trying to actively equalize the dipole rolloff of
the woofer. I was wondering. Is the filter you use on the Quasar Mk2
composed of two first order filter in series (a bit like the one for the
Oris bass but with different values)?

Yes, the principle used is the same as with the Oris systems.

The reason why I am asking is that Linkwitz uses a shelving low pass for
dipole equalization. Now I think my lambdas are closer to your BD15 in
terms of frequency extension and may do away with a simple first order
filter at 20hz for dipole equalization rather than a shelving low pass.

That won't work, first the bass will then play too much higher frequencies and next, the Supravox 215 is sounding more "bold" compared to a Fostex drive unit. You'll need at least 6dB for the compensation and preferable an extra 12dB at the crossover point...

Ciao,

Bert
