horns in aluminium (BD-Design)

Hi Angelo,

i know somebody who can make them for me in aluminium cast. do u have
experience with the tonal characteristics of aluminium ? i know that some
use aluminium horns, like ale from japan, or magico from the us.

How a aluminium horn will sound depends on the alloy used, the thickness (and the variation in this) and the size. This varies for creating a horn that is ringing like a bell (most probably) or one that is more quiet.

Best is to make the horn as thin as possible (1-3mm) so that you will be able to dampen the horn with bitumen or something similar. Making it thicker then it is almost impossible to dampen it!

What is the size of the horn you have in mind?

i want to use a aer driver, but i need to know the diameter for the screws, can u tell me ?

i was listening til now with altec 288-16g drivers, on 1003 altec horns. they sound a quit horny. do u know the difference abought these and aer oris combination ?

An Oris horn with AER drivers or any other suitable drivers will not sound horny, what you hear from the Altec horn is an uneven frequency response where the midrange is probably too strong.

Which AER drive units do you have?

dont u think that a supertweeter, like coral h100, could help on the aer
in the high frequencies ?

I don't know the Coral tweeter but I personally do not need a tweeter within my Oris system.

Ciao,

Bert
