I have the impression that they are a gainclone variant but might be wrong? Where can I find out more about them?

It is a gainclone variant yes but it can't be found on the website anymore. It was discontinued due to the limited available Black gate capacitors for the power supply. The original BD30 is only available for completed systems but that will end pretty soon too as I am almost out of stock now.

The new BD30mkII will replace them though...

PS The website needs a major update but I am still figuring out myself which path I want to follow as main business but until then many things are (still) possible except giving away secrets of course...
