is it because of the known problems with positioning of open baffles? cancellations?

No, it was just a completely "dead" room likewise when you were talking inside a car. No reflections except for a few nasty ones...

Complete different sound compared to my place or even Peter's place where they are playing now.

It was dissapointing having the experience that is can sound a lot better than there in that room. Still many people did like what they heard though... :wink:
