Adding a stand under Reference Cabinet (BD-Design)

by GC, Monday, November 21, 2005, 04:40 (6730 days ago)

Hi All,

Do you have experience placing the Oris 200 Reference compact system on short heavy stand with spikes (such as those from Sound Anchor for B&W systems)? I am thinking adding a pair to improve the bass responses and tightness.

Or do you have other alternatives?

Thanks in advance.

Adding a stand under Reference Cabinet

Dear Ringo,

Or do you have other alternatives?

No need to add complex things under the cabinets, just adding three cones under them will be just as effective. Or spikes when you have them on carpet...

2 at the back corners and 1 at the front.

Ciao,

Bert

Hi Bert,

The problem is there is no screw holes under the cabinet, placing the cones/spikes would be a great problem for me due to the weight and stability...

What type of cone material would you prefer? Wood or metal?

have you received the module yet?

Regards

Ringo

The weigth will provide more then enough stability on its own. You only have to tilt the enclosure and place one cone under the enclosure at the front, then tilt it at the back corners one at the time, that's all.

What type of cone material would you prefer? Wood or metal?

Metal, make sure that their height is more then the tickness of your fingers making it easy to put them under the enclosures.

have you received the module yet?

Yes, thanks. I haven't checked it though...

Ciao,

Bert

Adding a stand under Reference Cabinet

Hi Ringo,

I was using 3nos. of steel Partington 'Toppers' about 20mm height below my Lowther TP1 in the 90s. They come without screw and are now below my Onken bass box. I have place 1 cent disuse coin below them to protect my parquet flooring and they come in pack of 4 in plastic bag.
You can checkup www.electrades.com which has an agent here in Singapore.

Adding a stand under Reference Cabinet

by GC, Thursday, November 24, 2005, 10:44 (6727 days ago) @ GC

Hi All,

Finally found some SAFE devices

yamamoto PB-12 (http://www2.117.ne.jp/~y-s/settingbase-sogo-j.html)

They are a pair of ebony sharp cones with rosewood block as holder of the cones. I managed to place them (one at the front and 2 at the back) all by myself! Not very difficult but needs to be very careful.

Noticeably improvement in base control, and sharper images. I am now adjusting the base volume a little bit higher to test the effect.

Thanks for advices!

Ringo
