I'm building a pair of back loaded horns based on a fostex design for the FE206ES-R driver. If I want to try the AER MD1 I may need to reduce the throat volume. Would filling the bottom of the chamber with bags of lead shot work? Making modifications to the actual structure would not be feasible once the horns are glued up.

Yes, that would work well to experiment with the volume. Pieces of wood which are "clamped" (precise fit) will work too. The filling should not be able to "dance" around.

Hi Bert- The lead shot is the kind used to fill shotgun shells for birds. Actually I don't think it contains lead anymore due to environmental legislation.... sometimes they get things right! A bag of about 1L volume weighs about 15kg! I used it to fill the legs of the stand that holds my turn table and now I can hardly move it! Good for filling voids in speaker cabinets too.
