monica2 dac experience (Off Topic)

by blerpa @, Friday, October 27, 2006, 17:55 (6362 days ago)

Hi everybody,

I want to share my good experience with the monica2 dac from diy paradise. I just read the comments on the T-amp, which I also considered to try.

The monica2 dac does a lt better than the regular (slightly modded!) marantz cd6000. It gets the digital edges from CD playback, making listening to CD's more like LP's. I did never own a very expensive dac or Cd player so my judgement is more subjective. The rest of the chain is SET with a #45 and TQWP with supravox.

Other experience with the monica2 or related NOS dac's?

Have also a look at the DDDAC. Monica doesn't come with an USB interface!

DDDAC gives you far more options!
Especially the direct USB to I2S conversion plus Tent reference clocking.

Stay tuned guys. Yeo seems to be working on a USB monica. I'm waiting for that to happen before modding a DCX2496.

Be careful here -- he is talking of using the crappy internal PCM 2706 DAC!

On Monica he is using the 1545 with EIA bus, I think it's called. He won't be able to use the PCM2706 as a converter. I am wondering how he would get the interface done. If he uses the SPDIF-out to feed Monica it would be a 2nd conversion! Not acceptable to me.
I had a discussion ongoing with Yeo the other day, it did not seem to me
that he'd be very close to launch a solution.
