Lighting your speakers (Off Topic)
by unknown, Sunday, March 18, 2007, 15:40 (6247 days ago)
Gasper mentioned in another thread how it would be interesting to use white BD15s and to illuminate them from inside the box.
I have always been keen on lighting, and recently installed red lights in the mouths of my horns. The colour is more red (less pink) and much more subtle than portrayed in the photo.
Anyone else into lighting their speakers?

A friend's singular with lighting.
Red LED lighting, looks brighter and pink in the photo for some reason.
Phase plug not fitted because he didn't have the screw thread at the time.

It's a good thing you said this Bert, I was going to take a scalpel to my Fostex 207 drivers straight away.
I have started a new topic to discuss this.

red light district?
Yes, but only for your ears!
Getting back on topic...
I don't expect filament lamps would last very long and LEDs are compact and easy to mount. I have considered building some skinny rear surround speakers for the tv room with reading lamps on top. Something like a voigt pipe with 4 inch driver and a 35mm 12V halogen lamp on a gooseneck.
I have an enormous, horribly tacky "ghetto blaster" from the 1980s I rescued from the rubbish dump many years ago. It has translucent plastic dust caps in the 8 inch woofers. Lights in a hole in the pole piece flash with the bass. Several LEDs along the front flash as well. I can't bring myself to throw such an ugly thing away when the radio still works.
