Fu_man is right... (BD-Design)

...and therefore I would like to introduce the BD15w

These are not yet available though, I will have to test it for sound and the same for the BD12's to come but if the sound is okay with these white cones then they will be added to my list...

Here a few pictures so that you can see how they look. In reality they look even better and I have to admit, they do look....

- and where will this end?? :shame: :shame: :shame: Would probably look good with a plain white horn in front of it though......

Remember the good ol' Coral Beta 8 full-range driver with the red chassis, chrome-plated whizzer and positively puke-green membrane?

Don't worry JAM....nothing that far will happen and you have not seen the driver in reality...imagine an open baffle system using Fostex drive units combined with these BD drive units in light wood...

They will still be available in black though (BD15 and BD12), whatever you prefer...

Probably way out of topic, but still; Coral Beta 8 was also MY first encounter with building a backloaded horn speaker, and the one that got me hooked on high efficiency and horn speakers in general. And they were cheap too, at that time ('78-'83) we paid approx. 100 Euro for this driver, and only about half of that for the cheaper version Flat 8. That driver also had a white membrane, similar to many of the nice Fostex drivers from that era. I also remember building a mother of a bass reflex system with a Fostex 13" (!) edgeless drivers, terrific build quality, white membrane and enormous magnet system. Can't remember the sound anymore, but the concept of an edgeless driver was increased speed/less distortion by making it easier for the speaker to move.

So Bert, you should be thankful to Coral/Fostex and their partner here in Norway/Denmark at that time, Audioscan, who were very much into DIY and horns/tubes etc. They made these things easily available to us young lions...

Jam..you are likely from Denmark or?

Whatever, I'm familiar with all the drivers you mention. I had them too at that time. Before that I had big fights with my parents from whom's tube radios I stole the speaker drivers hahaha...

Audioscan, my very good friend Peter Lyngdorf bought in those times and I was totally involved in that war. :heat:

Sorry for this out of topic exchange.

Mail me. Maybe I know you?

Will be away from this forum some days however......:holiday:

Hallo Bert!
The Chassis looks like the "old" BD-15.
Ist that a new material for the cone, or is it just colored?
Anyway I´m very satisfied with my BD 15s - now that they had some time to break in. Response in my room is very flat down to 27 H, than falling of with 12dB/oct.

Best regards
Stephan

Yep, nothing wrong with them...!

absolutely PORN!

Bert... i love your title (of course...) unfortunately it is not without a little irony... as I now own GCs old black BD15's :swoon:

Anywhere white horns are implemented (and we all know white/pearl is the BEST colour for horns... sorry Angelo:grin: ) these white bass drivers are sure to be a welcome option.
