Newbee looking for answers on Oris (BD-Design)
Hi.
I'm new to this forum.
I'm currently in the planning stage and seriously tempted to invest in a pair of Oris horns for DIY use.
I do have a pair of Lowther DX3 in my system today.
I hope I can use these in the horns, at least as a start. Then later upgrade to something better.
The question I have is which Oris horns to use?
I guess this is linked to which bass bin I'm going to ad.
Here I'm also searching for some ideas. I know that the Compact bass bin from BD probably would be the best. But what about La Scala or Onken or even other designs?
I need something from plans. I'm not capable of designing somthing myself. But the wood work (of even complex bins) are no problem.
Could any one give me some pros and cons regarding these?
I'm planning to run the Oris horns with a pair of Bottlehead Paramount 2A3 monoblocks.
The bass bins I'm not sure of jet. I do have a tweaked Audio Note2 6550 KIT witch would be a shame to waste – but I don't know.
Any thoughts are most appreciated:wink:

Dear Kare!
I would suggest you to do with Oris 150 - if you decide to go latter with Oris Reference you already have the horn for the bass (than make bass enclosure with driver mounted on side panel). I'm also useing L's DX3 and transparent (BD-Design) phase plugs and Duelund cabling with Oris 150 and Compact bass enclosure.
With bass I would go with BD design - do not make experiments, trust me :wink: - you can use some cheaper 15"driver for the start (check out for TS parameters!) and later you can go with BD15s. You can get plans for bass and filter from Mr. Bert (I think... :cool

The above choice basically if you are thinking about using a LaScala for the bass or in combination with an Onken (the real one) as then the integration is most easy to accomplish due to the lower crossover frequency.

For bass some control would be nice and a tube amplifier is mostly not the type of amplifier to use in that range but if you like the more round and full sound then a good one able to drive the bass speakers will do okay.
