Copycats... (BD-Design)

by Bert @, Friday, May 16, 2014, 16:29 (3626 days ago)

What to do about that!

Of course it is a compliment that people actually making copies and sell them as ORIS 150 horns. There are other copycats but at least they use another name for their horns, that much respect I did have earned in their eyes.

I guess I have to start using another name for them?

Poland, USA, Australia, Serbia and now Iran can be added to the list... which country will follow eh?

:naughty:

Pity for all those customers buying copies sounding different, probably worse than the original.

Live is to short to get angry about that though, the only thing that they accomplish is that knowledgeable guys will be even more silent and do not share anything with other people. It will only be copied to make their own profit... nice world we live in these days!

No progress to be shared in the DIY-world as a bonus. THANK YOU!

Bert

Hi Bert,

It is a pity that this is a topic on a Forum. We live in a world where moral values do not play major role...

I was target of abuse too, when two guys want to borrow and copy Oris150 from me. I recognize this soon enough and Oris never leave my house...

I know that copies do not bring much happines to the owners...

I am happy that i have the real one Orphean
It are the best speakers i ever had and i ever heard.
the help and support the i have from you Bert is priceless
and it is also the reason they sound so good.

Its not just the horn that do the trick its the whole integration setup and huge experience from you that made it a good system
cheap horns are not the holy grail.

Indeed but the downside is that people hearing the copies with poor support and do not like what they hear will blame me or at least the principle.

There are still many people who do not like the sound of horns, always those who never heard a good integrated setup and those copy cats only make that worse destroying their own market in the end.

O well, life goes on!

I am sorry to hear that your hard work and promotion of your excellent product is being stolen, Bert. You can rest assured that I would never let anyone measure or copy my Oris 150s even if they swore it was only to make one pair for themselves.

Hi Bert,

I think you only fall for it if you have very limited knowledge.

I have built about four pairs of wooden fronthorns and maybe three pairs of cardboard horns before that. Little changes can have dramatic effects. Different woord, different shapes, more or less exterior damping. I get nice results, but never close to Oris performance.

I have talked to you a few times about the Oris horns. You know exactly why it is designed a certain way, you know exactly why you made each design decision. It's all about the sound. Maybe a bit about finishing.

People should realise it's not just about the basic shape, it's as much about material, thickness, suspension, damping, tricks to adapt to a certain drive unit, etc. etc. etc.

Much respect for your products.

Ivo
