Thanks to you all, especially you Bert for your assistance during my adventure with the Oris 150 horns.
In these days it's rare to get in touch with a designer who is so responsive and helpfull, although he knows you bought his product used and prob. is not going to earn a buck... respect to you Bert.

After spending enough time to evaluate the difference between the Oris and my old Altecs, I switched back to the Altecs.

Although more "easy to the ears" than the Altecs, the Oris were a bit too laid back for my taste.
In the end we all like different things and we all experience music in our own way.
The combination with the cornerhorns was impressive by looks and sound and I'm sure many people will love it.

It's time for me to give the old combo a better appearance and settle down for a while. Maybe until a set of orpheans pops up for sale which also use compression drivers....

All the best for everyone here, and maybe we'll meet again.
Nico

Thanks

My pleasure Nico, I am sure we will see you again one day soon...

It depends on the driver used... you seem to be more a Lowther guy reading your descriptions about the drivers you've heard in the Oris horns so far.

Those are not 2nd hand for sale too often I am afraid but perhaps you should hear them yourself first? Perhaps you do not like those either and then it will not teasing you in the back of your head all the time...

Cheers,

Bert

Hi again, Nico. I have enjoyed your posts to this forum.

There is no accounting nor need for accounting for one's individual ears or tastes, but to my ears the Oris 150s, at least with the AER drivers I use, are anything but laid back. On the other hand I am old enough to remember visiting high end audio stores when all the various Altecs were readily available for audition and purchase. Somehow the Altecs just never sang for me. I won't pretend to remember after decades why the Altecs didn't turn me on.

The bottom line is, as always, that whatever gives you the most satisfying musical enjoyment is exactly what you should choose.
