Bert,
A long time ago somebody posted a picture of some measurements they had made of your Onken woofers. Do you still have that set of measurements?
I'm interested because I'm trying to work out what to do with my woofers once I upgrade to the Ultra. I don't think anybody outside of New Zealand will want to buy them because of the shipping cost, and am not sure I could find a buyer in NZ.

I remember somebody did published some measurements but I can't remember where that was.
You could use them combined in one enclosure and use them as subwoofer (HT)....

If you do come acros that picture it would be helpful. I'm interetsed in their behaviour abouve 180hz.
I thought about your idea of using the Onken's for HT subwoofers, but I actually think they are too good for that. They could form the basis of a really good pair of speakers (they do with the Oris!).
I have been wondering about pairing them with a Fostex driver, either in some kind of box, or on an open baffle. I also had a crazy idea about using some Mangers, but thay are way too expensive - if I could spend that kind of money I'd be buying BD3s ;)
The main thing for me would be to achieve a well balanced sound using a passive crossover, and something that was well integrated visually.
Do you have any ideas? Finding a good cheap solution to this could be helpful to other current and prospective Oris owners, as it could put a further step in the upgrade path from Oris 150 or 200 through to the Ultra.

They perform well up to at least 500Hz so a Fostex would be a good idea. You could use the FE103E in an open baffle on top of the Onken, the sensitivity is close and a simple filter set to 350Hz should work out okay.
Mating them with a Fostex FE207E (or even an FE206E) will work well while reducing the sensitivity of both with an L-Pad).

The width of the Onken and the height as you please. The driver should be at earlevel. You could make angled wings to the sides to spread the cancelling between the front and back of the driver. Just make it visual nice and tune the filter to that what you've build.

Open baffle or a short TL (also open at the back but then filled with damping material). Any L-Pads are usable, their principle is the same. Better would be with fixed resistors though...

Would the limited power handling of the 103 be a problem? What sort of amplification would you suggest?

Normal listening levels and proper protection (filtering the lower frequencies) won't show any power handling problems. As single amplified system you can use an amplifier like the BD30 very well which is very capable to drive the Vifa, the FE103E's can be driven by anything.
