Hi Yehuda,

I think not, if they did then it would probably a disapointing experience due to the high Q of those drivers. These drivers are better suitable for an open panel or a closed box with a variovent (releasing pressure and lowering the Q of the system).

Thanks,

Did you hear the 215 Signature Bicone in a TQWT?

Hi again,

Did you hear the 215 Signature Bicone in a TQWT?

Nope, I did hear them in an open panel (helped by an 285GMF) and that sounded real nice. Using an enclosed system for such speakers will stress the sound a bit though, the same with other speakers I have heard (PHY-HP and Fertin).

Perhaps the TQWP will be less stressing to the driver though...

Bert,

I've decided to build a system following your principles, the Oris system is out of my reach now :(
I will use the Supravox 165-2000 in an open baffle down to 150Hz, with a vifa 10" woofer that I own.

Regarding the bass enclosure, what is the reason that made you use an Onken enclosure and not a bass reflex? and are there any formulas used to design this enclosure (I use the Vifa M25WO48-08)?

Thanks,
Yehuda

Hi Yehuda,

Onken enclosure and not a bass reflex? and are there any formulas used to
design this enclosure (I use the Vifa M25WO48-08)?

Its basically the only way to get deeper bass from a low Qts driver. Another advantage is that it gives identical and lower impedance peaks (if designed correctly) and the response gradually drops down in the deeper bass (depends on the used driver).

This gradual roll-off sounds better in most listening rooms because the room "amplifies" the deeper bass. Systems designed to be flat in open air always sound boomy or way too heavy in the bass.

Ciao,

Bert
