Crossover for old quasar system?

Hi Aksel,

Bert , how was the crossover design for the old quasar system
with the Supravox bass driver.

It used a serial filter (one big coil, one capacitor and a resistor to attenuate the AER driver).

Ciao,

Bert

Do you mean that the coil and the capacitor was on the Supravox driver
and the AER driver was only attenuated, not filtered ?
Do you remember what cutoff frequency you used for the bass driver.

Hi Aksel,

I used a serial filter not a series filter for just the Supravox driver.

With a serial filter both drivers are connected in series where the capacitor is connected in parallel with the Supravox and the coil connected in parallel with the AER driver. This way both drivers are filtered and the slope is approx. 9dB/oct.

Do you remember what cutoff frequency you used for the bass driver.

I have no idea, I alway listen and measure the total results to check my ears... :)

The coil was a 15mH and the capacitor 100uF.

Bert

Thank you very much for your fast reply. This information comes in handy as i am trying to mate a 135LB to a 285 GMF.

Hi Bert and all,

I´ve assembled a Quasar system (old style) but in my room the bass sound is attenuated in reference to the mid-high range. I have a coil and a capacitor (in fact two in parallel).
Please can you tell me what is the resistor value for trying it in my system?
Maybe it can adjust the overall balance better.

Thank´s.

Jorge

Hi Jorge,

Please can you tell me what is the resistor value for trying it in my
system?

I used a 22 ohm resistor in parallel with the AER driver. You can also add a quality 2uF capacitor in series with the same resistor. Its possible that your amplifier is sensitive to the rising impedance (sounding more bright), this RC filter cures that problem.

Hi Bert,

Thanks for the answer. I´ll try the filter that you described.

Jorge
