Fostex fe 206e speakers. (BD-Design)

Hi Jim,

That are so nice but, have a bad brightness to them with some music. I
need to build a box for them. I have them sitting in a double front open
back baffle. Which will help my speakers horn or bass reflex. I know there
is goods and bads to both boxs.

Best type of enclosure for the FE206E is a horn which will give most body in the lower frequencies needed to balance the frequency response of those drivers.

Also A lot of people on the web tell me to put a notch filter on the
fostex's or it will ripe my ears off. Is this now using a crossover? I
thought they were fullrange and needed no cossovers? I just need some
help. I would hate to give up a good thing.

If used in a good and suitable enclosure then you do not need a filter to EQ (notch). A crossover is a filter type that only passes a certain frequency range that is not covered by another driver (bass driver or tweeter).

Does cables help like dh labs I am using monster cable and a bright onkyo
stereo amp. I will be switching to my harman kardon as soon as I get the 5
fuses I need 50.00 u.s. for 2 of each of them wow. I will also be getting
tube amps and pre amps and a good cd player. Right now I have a 60.00 cd
player and straight wire cables. So Is there anything I can do to correct
this problem? I have at least 7 to 10 hours on my speakers. I do love the
sound stage and how clear they are and how musical they are. My freind
said they are the most detailed speaker he has heard and so sweet on some
cd's. Like it is being played right in my room like his wife said not a
hi-fi fan I thought you were playing the gutair in that room or we were in
a cafe listening to b.b. king play. SO if you can help please let me know I
need it.

All parts used within the system has its influence on the character of your system. Cheap or bad designed products make the sound more cold and harsch sounding. The best start for a better balance will be a proper enclosure, cables won't change a bright sound into a warm sound enough...

Hi, I just bought the fostex fe 206e speakers.

The 206E is a wonderful speaker for the money!

Foxtex drivers need at least 200 hours before they begin to play music. I have had experienc with FE166E's (the 206E's little brother) and the FF165K (the 206's younger cousin) as well as the 206E's. Both the 166 & 165 were loaded into Voight type enclosure and needed many hours before they really began to show their true capabilities.

I have the 206Es in an Oris 200 horn right now and they were very bright and conjested at first. They are beginning to settle in now and sound very nice.

I've tried a number of different cables... from the top of the line Cardas Golden Reference to DIY 32 gauge magnet wire from Radio Shack. While they all impart their own sonic signature to the overall sound, think of cables as salt and pepper you add to your food for flavor. If it were me, I would concentrate my focus on electronics before cables.

In my experience, I've found that lower powered tube amps complement the speakers better that high powered solid state. However, once properly broken-in, the solid-state gear will work well. A nice 300B SET will really make them sing :^)
