Something totally different... (Swing)

by GC, Monday, May 16, 2005, 13:17 (6914 days ago)

Hi all,

To counter-attack the negative topics posted the last few days and to make me feel better I would like to share some published photo's of the new Swing system at BD-Design (new website but under construction).

Any comments? :-P

Wow Bert
That woodworking is sensational, reminds me of construction in the hulls of boats and aircraft. Strength without weight.;-)
Are these totally rear loaded horns (I am guessing AER at the top and BD15 at the bottom) or will they have front loading too.

Cheers Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks!

at the bottom) or will they have front loading too.

Here is a picture of the prototype...

Nice :-) :-)

Its seems from other pictures that there are a number of ports, presumably at the back. Is this to rear load the full range or bass speaker (or both)?
Cheers Chris

The ports at the back let the BD15's breath and extend the bass (aperiodic dampened isobaric reflex system...).

The AER's are loaded as usual.

Bert

Hi Bert,

Not only looking good, sound maybe even is more impressive. I had the pleasure to listen to one of the prototypes and really liked the bass (AER on Oris was as perfect as always). It is very clear to hear there is not dissipative damping (like wool, etc), really dynamic and fast. I must say it really impressed me (and I normally listen to Altec 515 high power version loaded in an original Altec horn enclosure)....

Rock on Bert!

Bert,
Can you give those of us in the dark a clue about cost for these cabinets in US dollars? Forgive me if this has already been addressed.
Thanks,
Scott:-)

Hi Scott,

Can you give those of us in the dark a clue about cost for these cabinets
in US dollars? Forgive me if this has already been addressed.

The Oris Swing system will only be sold as completed system (including the best drivers, best sounding parts, luxury finish, etc.) for 18.500 Euro (export price) which excludes shipping and import duties. In Dollars with the present currency conversion rate this equals about $24.000 US.

With the currency conversion rates 2 years ago this would have been less than $14.500 US...

Ciao,

Bert

Thanks Bert...they sure are beautiful! I am still without cabinets for my BD15's...Is there any chance that diy plans would ever be made available for those of us who have the drivers and horns already?...I'm quite sure you will say NO but, one can always dream! Thanks again and hope you are doing well.
Peace,
Scott

Never say never but...

... at this moment you're rigth. That enclosure won't be available for DIY but perhaps a redesigned Reference enclosure using some of the same principles could become available as kit.

The to_do_list is pretty long though so don't expect anything soon...

Ciao,

Bert
