La Scala with Oris 200/Fostex FE206E (BD-Design)

Hi Rob,

I'm looking at building the above system and want to know how to go

about building a crossover. Would I be right in assuming a crossover freq
of 400Hz?

There are different ways to make a crossover. Usually there is no filter
used for the full-range driver, only for the bass. To protect the
full-range driver at higher volume then it would be wise to add a filter.

For the FE206E I would suggest a 1st order filter by using a serial
capacitor of 33-47uF which reduces the too strong lower midrange enough
and sets the crossover frequency for the bass at around 220Hz.

For the bass I would use a passive line filter as suggested by Frode. The
values needed depends on the LaScala you have though, which driver is used
in there and how the resulted response is in your room...

Ciao,

Bert

Thanks Frode and Bert for your replies.

In suggesting a passive line filter, do you mean bi-amping, or am I misunderstanding you? Is there cct diagram you would recommend?

From the research I've done I'm thinking of using K33s in the La Scala clones.

Thanks

Rob
