New filter try-out for Oris Ultra (News)

by GC, Saturday, November 19, 2005, 14:07 (6742 days ago)

Hi all,

I have been working on a complete new filter for the Oris Reference Ultra. So far I do like the improvements a lot. The bass is more dynamic, cleaner and all drivers are now connected in the same phase.

I would like to ask all Oris Reference Ultra owners to give this new filter a try and report back with their opinion.

The system should be the real Ultra system though, with the Oris 200 and AER driver (all types) and the Oris 150/BD15 with BD15 bass drivers and preferable also with the BD30 amplifiers.

The input of the filter should be connected to the main amplifier (same connections as to the AER drivers in the Oris horns) and the output of the filter should be connected as close as possible to the input of the bass amplifier (preferable the BD30).

Let me know...

Ciao,

Bert

Hi Bert
I have been playing with your new filter for some houres now and I must say this is the best filter from you so far.I realy like it. Have you done it by ear or any program /simulations?
I would also like to say some words about the TwinDac+. IT IS FANTASTIC!
It has been playing some time here now, connected to my homebuilt harddisc-drive PC. On redbook CD I think it is even better than my now sold dCS player
(Elgar+-Purcell-Verdi). Not bad when you know the price of that combo!
Keep Up The Good Work
Regards
Morten

No simulations used but measured real-time for the starting values. From that point tuned by ear. Took me a while though...

Yes, it is a beauty. :)

(Elgar+-Purcell-Verdi). Not bad when you know the price of that combo!

I have had several other pretty expensive products here to compare to the TwinDAC+ during the last year, no need for me to change either!

Keep Up The Good Work

I will, sometimes slow but there are more good things to come in the future...

hi Bert
i tried the new filter
and it is amazing good, no it is perfect :-)
i tryed almost 2 years to get that sound and now it is there
thank you very much!
the first notes that i heard was tjakkaaaa :Y:
the integration of the BD30 with the AER md3 is like there is only 1 speaker playing
the bass is very precise and the whole total sound is just perfect
the new filter lift the Oris reverence ultra on the highest level
i am very happy with this :clapping:

New filter try-out for Oris Ultra

Hi Bert
Looks like you have come up with another winner and you can probably guess my question ;-)

Could you give an indication of values for the new filter to allow crossover at about 70 Hz?

Here is the old one you recommended which has been working admirably.

Also does the new filter attenuate the signal more or less that the old one?

Hi Chris,

Could you give an indication of values for the new filter to allow
crossover at about 70 Hz?

That is not easy from here but you could try to use the same capacitors as in the new filter but change the resistors to half their value.

Also does the new filter attenuate the signal more or less that the old
one?

It depends on the bass amplifier's sensitivity to this but I think it won't reduce too much.

Hi Werner,

should this filter work for LaScala as well ???

The principle can be used but the values will be a bit different because the frequency respons of your bass and your front horns are not the same as the Ultra. The only thing I can suggest is to connect the extra resistors and play with the capacitor values...

I am also working on new filters for the Compact system (before somebody starts asking about that).
