BD15 mounting (BD-Design)

Bert

Finally, I am ready to finish my Oris system. [Fingers crossed] This weekend we'll be listening!! Looking at the supplied mounting screws for the BD15, I don't think we have fasteners quite like these over here. I assume they are designed for MDF? Is there a specified pilot hole size? Can these be successfully removed and replaced without damaging the hole in the MDF, that is, can they be repetedly and firmly re-tightened? As you can see, I am a bit concerned with buggering the MDF at this late point.

While I'm here, can you describe the sonic differences between the earlier crown phase plugs and the newer transparent plugs in a AER2/150 horn?

Thanks

Tom

Alan key heads are common in the US too as far as I know... there should be a tool for them available. The bolts are designed for particle board but in MDF these will do well too. You should then pre-drill with 4mm

Yes, this should not be a problem as long as you do not force them too much. Its not a car you're tightening...

While I'm here, can you describe the sonic differences between the earlier
crown phase plugs and the newer transparent plugs in a AER2/150 horn?

More linear, more freedom in sound and less "dull/sharp" sounding.

Ciao,

Bert

Of course we have allen heads. I was referring to the thread configuration.

Here, everything from pressed board to particle board to grade 1 mdf are sold under the same MDF sign and we end up calling most every manufactured board mdf. I would more correctly call the material used in these cabs particle board as it is noticeably aggregate in nature. Does this looser material also require a 4mm pilot?

There is a problem with the tyrofoam panels. The drawing shows 8 panels and the legend says that 8 panels are required. 7 panels were supplied for each side. There are 7 arrows on the drawing but 8 panels are drawn and 8 make sense as far as balance goes. What can we do about this?

Yes, 4mm will do okay too. More care should be taken with tightening them though...

If I recall correctly then you were going to build the Basic enclosures, these only need 7 panels each enclosure, hence the reaon why you only received that amount.

Actually, I was always going to make the compact enclosure as I have a 150 horn and I also have an amp that is especially designed to work only with a 150 horn. All of my correspondance to you was clear in that I did not want to change from the 150 on top and that the compact enclosure was what was to be done. At any rate, this seems a strange place to cut things so closely.

I have worked hard to produce a cab that is precisely as you designed in all respects and doing so certainly includes the use of the appropiate damping materials. How do we go about my getting the remaining tyrofoam panels that I need to complete the cabs?

Hi Tom,

Sorry about the misunderstanding. I will send you the missing sheets, is there anything else you might need which can be combined to one package?

Ciao,

Bert
