crossover point (BD-Design)

by OTLamp @, Saturday, April 14, 2007, 07:54 (6232 days ago)

I am using accuphase F15 with two amps(different gains unfrotuntely, microzotl for high, mid, and muse 100 on bass), the crossover point is 290Hz, if i move up to 500 or 1300Hz what would be difference? sorry I have not much DIY knowledge and dont want to waste money first. Please advise.

Thanks

I can't answer that question besides that the crossover point will move up...

The used drivers should at least be able to handle the changed frequency and still sound okay then. Why do you want to move it up?

I think the sound would be richer in mid range, its very clean and detail now but i feel its kind of thin.

Maybe i should try a different driver? I have Iris 200 with AER Md2. Thanks.

Okay, now things get more clear to me....

What do you use for the bass? What type of filter?

thanks

Sorry to ask for more details but which bass system are we talking about that comes along with the Oris 200?

Using another amplifier doesn't have to be a problem but the filters used might be...

Can you describe more precise how all things are connected, what the present crossover frequency and slope is used and what amplifiers you are using?

its the standard box bass come with oris 200.

i use Acoustic research Ls 5 mk ii, then to Accuphase F15 with two way crossover and crossover point at 290Hz. The mid and high is then drive by berning Mircozotl and the bass is driven by Muse 100 SE. The gain for MIcrozotl and muse 100 is difference.

before Accuphase F15 comes in, i use a simple passive preamp between the preamp and the bass amp to control the gain.

The sound now is very clean and with good bass, however the thing i found its different from the crossover comes in is the mid range.

the catalogue for F15 could be download here.

Thanks so much for your help.

Assuming this is the Compact bass enclosure with the BD15 bass drivers?

290Hz should be high enough as crossover frequency but having no experience at all with active crossovers like the F15 and the way you have connected everything does not help either....many things can go wrong.

Amps sometimes do invert phase, impedance matching problems....

The sound now is very clean and with good bass, however the thing i found
its different from the crossover comes in is the mid range.

Did you try to change the filter slope to 12dB or 18dB and experimented with the absolute phase (both the horns connected with reversed polarity)?

yes, it is the BD 15.

I switched the phase already and it is not better.

I changed the interconnect from phono to preamp and it works fine with me now. The mid range is much much better now.

Thanks for your help Bert.

By the way, i am thinking of getting the La scala bass, is there any info here?

Yes, I did. I prefer the AER for their clean midrange (not paper-like forward sounding as the Lowther) and extended high frequencies.
