Question about passive line filter/summing (BD-Design)
Bert,
I use passive line filters now, a lowpass for the LaScala's. I want to use a similar filter for my subwoofer. Obviously, I need a room response measurement for that, and I will make sure I get it. I will either invite someone, or get the measurement equipment myself.
I am wondering how to sum the left and right channels, as this is a mono-sub. Is there a safe way to do this with passive line filters?
Groet,
Ivo

I think you can combine the end of both filters to one input but I am not sure...best is to do some experiments first to see if that is an option.
Make 2 filters, combine them to one input and play only one channel to hear if the other channel is starting to play too or not... :wink:

Question about passive line filter/summing
Hi Ivo,
I'm not sure whether we understand the question properly;
I think what you want is feeding the sub with left and right channel data ...
If so, I don't think you can "just" do that. With a processor you may, or otherwise a circuitry doing it for you. Just connecting two channels into one will give you mono all over the equipment (I'd say) ...
Otoh, it is very common to use the left channel only for the sub.
Or have two subs ... :wacko:

With a passive line filter the gain will be reduced with 22-100k resistance in series before both channels meet each other. And since this is at the output of the amplifier (where speakers with 8 ohm or so are connected) I do not think that this will be a problem.

Bert and Peter,
I will try it out and report my findings. Thanks.
