Singular Building Homepage (BD-Design)

by GC, Friday, March 25, 2005, 19:04 (6972 days ago)

Hi out there !

As it was my first DIY-experience, I made a small page of the building process (Sorry, in german only, but the pictures speak for themselves).
Click: http://boxenbau.woebking.net/

They got a ivory-coloured enclosure and a birch front. Something special are
the decoration-rings made of birch for the FE206 (Pic #34 - #37).
But they sounds even much better, than they look like ;-)

Groeten,
Andreas

Nice going and thanks for the pictures... :)

First time I see a woman helping with building speakers!

Ciao,

Hi Bert !

By the way... that is my wife, and she did most of the woodworks !
I just had the idea and your plans and did the little electronics ;)

Hoi Weidok,

Ciao,

Bert

Nice work Andreas!
Picture 1_singular32.jpg is showing 470uF caps. If you are using these caps for the BSC filter then you made a mistake. These caps should be 470nF. Upgrading the cement-resistors (to MILLS resistors) will also give you a great improvement.

Ooops... that was a little mistake about factor 1000 ;)
As I'm a total newbie in eletronics, I wonder what effect would that have ? They don't sound that badly... ?

And when I'm already asking: What difference would it be to varie the resistor between 10 und 22 Ohm ?

So it's going to be even better :-) when replacing the caps. Don't use the ceramic cap that is on the picture. Find some nice film caps. I think Bert recommends Jupiter bee wax caps, very good but expensive ($18 each). On the site of Tony Gee you can find some test results of different caps (Cap Test).

I did some simulation on the filter components you used.
The filter has become a 4dB notch filter around 200Hz. This will not make your speakers sound bad but this is not the purpose of a BSC filter.

Using the right cap will look like this:
The simulation is not really accurate but gives a good impression of what is going on.

Could that little bastard be the right thing:
470nF-Cap
???
It seem's to be somewhat "small"...

P.S. The zobel filter shown on the simulation schematic is not doing anything (R is set to 150k).

resistor between 10 und 22 Ohm ?

22Ohm will give you a max attenuation of about 12dB around 3..4kHz, using a 10Ohm resistor this will be about 7dB. Reducing the resistor value will give you a more forwarded midrange (vocals). This is a thing of personal taste.

Hi Martin !

Thanks for the simulation and the information :Y:
For the moment I've ordered a pair of Intertechnik caps and will replace them as soon as possible... and some other resistors for testing purposes.

Andreas
